The SEC isn't nearly the thorn in the side of fans on the basketball side of things, so I wanted to see how the Illinois basketball program has done against SEC teams.

Illinois basketball vs. Texas Longhorns

  • 3-3 overall

There are a few tight series in the history of Illinois basketball, and the matchup against Texas is one of them. Illinois is 3-3 against the Longhorns all time.

Illinois was able to emerge victorious in the last matchup, though. The game took place in 2022, and the Illini snuck by the Longhorns by a score of 85-78 in overtime.

This win by the Illini broke a two-game winning streak Texas had going. Who knows when the rubber match will be played between Illinois and Texas?

Illinois basketball vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

  • 6-3 overall

The last matchup against current SEC teams is against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Illinois has done well against Vanderbilt, winning the series thus far 6-3.

2009 was the last time the two teams played. Illinois was able to get the best of Vanderbilt, 79-68. This marked the second game in a row the Illini have been able to beat the Commodores.

Illinois has played three games against Vanderbilt in Champaign. We have won all three games by an average of 10 points per game.
