Illinois basketball all-time record against current SEC programs

The SEC isn't nearly the thorn in the side of fans on the basketball side of things, so I wanted to see how the Illinois basketball program has done against SEC teams.

Illinois basketball vs. Auburn Tigers

  • 3-0 overall

Illinois does find itself undefeated against the Auburn Tigers. They are a good program, but the Illini are 3-0 all-time against this now-SEC powerhouse.

The last game between Illinois and Auburn came in 2013. It was a part of a two-game series in back-to-back years, and the Illini thumped the Tigers, 81-62.

In the three games Illinois has played against Auburn, we have won by a total of 25 points. That means the Illini average winning each game by 8.3 points.

Illinois basketball vs. Florida Gators

  • 4-1 overall

Even though they have been a decent program in the history of college basketball, the Florida Gators have struggled against the Illini. Illinois is 4-1 all-time against Florida.

The most recent game between the two programs came in 2000. Florida and Illinois met in the second round of the NCAA tournament, and a Mike Miller and Udonis Haslem-led Gators squad took us down, 93-76 en route to a national title appearance.

Before that last matchup, the Illini had won the prior four contests against the Gators by an average of 12.25 points. This included just one home game as well.

Illinois basketball vs. Georgia Bulldogs

  • 5-1 overall

The success against the SEC continues with Illinois’ great record against Georgia. The Illini are 5-1 all-time against the Bulldogs, with the most recent matchup coming in 2009.

Illinois actually lost that 2009 contest, though. It was held in Duluth, Georgia, so it was technically a neutral site game. Illinois fell to Georgia 70-67 in that game.

In the prior five matchups, the Illini took home the crown. Illinois averaged beating Georgia by 14.2 points in the five wins. This includes a 38-34 barnburner in 1940.
