The transfer portal continues to be the topic of conversation, as the Illinois basketball team has recently landed another Crystal Ball Prediction.
There are multiple areas Brad Underwood needs to address this offseason. The Illini need some depth in the frontcourt. I wouldn’t mind getting a nice shooting wing. And I believe we need a point guard who can control the backcourt and get the offense going.
Kylan Boswell could be that backcourt option. On April 9, Boswell finished his time at Arizona, as he entered the transfer portal. That same day, 247Sports’ National Basketball Director Eric Bossi submitted a Crystal Ball Prediction for the Illini to land Boswell.
Illinois picking up a prediction to land Boswell from one of the top people at 247Sports is a big deal alone. Well, on Thursday, we picked up another prediction. 247Sports’ Derek Piper submitted a Crystal Ball Prediction in favor of the Illini as well.
Transfer portal guard Kylan Boswell reminds me a lot of a former Illinois basketball star
Boswell has started to develop his game greatly over the past year. Coming into the Arizona program, he was a five-star recruit who was the No. 25 player in the class of 2022, so he clearly had talent. But year-over-year, Boswell’s improvement has been impressive.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound guard averaged 9.6 points, 3.6 assists, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game with the Wildcats in 2023-24. He also attempted 4.8 three-pointers and hit them at a clip of 37.9%.
I love the build of Boswell. He is someone who can take a hit and finish at the rim. Just the physical build alone reminds me a lot of former Illini great, Deron Williams. Williams played at Illinois at 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, and just by watching them, they both have the same build.
Williams was also a knockdown three-point shooter during his time. He developed that skill, much like Boswell. They are both great shooters off the dribble and coming around screens.
I am not saying Boswell is the next Williams, but I am saying these two have similar games. If Illinois can land Boswell from the transfer portal, maybe he too can lead us to a national title.
