Illinois Basketball: 2026 three-star point guard receives Illini offer
By Collin Allen
Illinois basketball is in the midst of a great season, but Brad Underwood and his coaching staff aren't putting recruiting to the side.
2026 three-star Point Guard Neiko Mundey announced on X this week that he has received an offer from the Illini.
Mundey is a 6-foot-3, 165-pound point guard who attends Shabach Christian Academy in Maryland. He is ranked the No. 51 overall prospect and the no. 6 PG in the country. Prep Hoops recently ranked him as the No. 4 player in Maryland. The Maryland native holds five other offers; East Carolina, Florida State, Old Dominion, Syracuse, and Towson.
Mundey has been a rising star lately, excelling at Shabach Christian Academy, as well as the many camps he's attended. He recently scored 16 second-half points to help lead a 72-70 comeback win. 12 of those 16 points came from beyond the arc.
He's also been named a standout in several camps, including the 2023 CBG Juco Prep Showdown, the Thanksgiving Hoopfest, Full Court Press All Frosh/Soph Camp, and the Derek Smith Invitational. Mundey is everywhere.
What type of player is Illinois basketball tareget Neiko Mundey?
The Illini would be getting a guard who excels at getting to the basket with both his speed and his handles. Not only is Mundey great at creating contact under the rim, but he can finish through that contact. If he one day suits up in the Orange & Blue, don't be surprised to see him at the charity stripe often.
Munder's defense also stuck out to me watching some of his tape. He's a hustler for rebounds and aggressive for steals. His hustle could be compared to that of former Illini guards Da'Monte Williams and Andres Feliz.
Given it's still very early, the Illini currently do not have any commitments or signees for the 2026 class yet, but they are in early on some talented recruits. The future is bright in Champaign.
