As he enters year four with the Chicago Bulls, Ayo Dosunmu is going to be looking a little different this season.

Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu is making a familiar change to anyone who has followed his career.

Selected in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, Dosunmu has spent the past three seasons developing his skills with the Bulls.

Donning the No. 11 with the Illini, Dosunmu entered the Chicago franchise and had to change his number. NBA veteran and six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan sported the No. 11, so Dosunmu had to change course and go with No. 12 to start his career.

After three seasons, and now that DeRozan is with the Sacramento Kings, Dosunmu is making a change. He is going from his three-year stint of No. 12 back to his regular No. 11 that he wore in Champaign for all those years.

The Bulls made the switch official on Monday afternoon with a post on social media.

Ayo Dosunmu is the embodiment of consistency with the Chicago Bulls

This is a big move by the Chicago native. Dosunmu played his high school ball with Morgan Park and his AAU ball with the Mac Irvin Fire. This kid is Chicago through and through.

Dosunmu’s progression under the No. 12 jersey has been quite impressive as well. As a rookie, he averaged 8.8 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Over the three-year career thus far, Dosunmu has been able to either maintain or improve on all of his numbers as well. This past season, he managed to average 12.2 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.8 rebounds per game.

Dosunmu should once again be a big part of the Bulls’ plans in 2024-25. While HoopsHype has the talented guard lining up in the second rotation behind newcomer Josh Giddey, I would surely expect to see another 25+ minutes average out of Dosunmu each night next season.

At $7 million this year, Chicago is getting a steal with Dosunmu on the roster. He has two more years left on his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2025-26 campaign.
