2024 Week 1 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction

There wasn't a ton of drama in week one of the season, but the College Football Playoff rankings prediction did get a bit of an adjustment based on how teams looked over the weekend.

Week one is nearly in the books, and with some of the results, the predicted 2024 College Football Playoff rankings took a bit of a jostle.

The Illini will not find their way on this updated ranking. There is a new No. 1 at the top of the predicted 2024 College Football Playoff rankings, though. I had Oregon in this spot last week, as I thought they were poised for a great 2024 campaign. The Ducks didn’t look good, though, so they are dropping down to No. 3 in the season-end prediction after week one.

The new team at the top is the Texas Longhorns. Texas has the firepower to be the best team in the country, and by the time the season ends, look for the Longhorns to potentially raise the trophy.

Another big riser in the ranking is the Miami Hurricanes. Miami looked good against a lowly Florida squad, but it is still an SEC win, so they earned a bump up in the prediction. I have the Hurricanes now sitting at No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings.

If this prediction came true, the top four seeds in the College Football Playoff would be No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Oregon, No. 3 Miami, and No. 4 Kansas, since they each won their power-four conference.

First-round matchups would consist of No. 12 Tulane at No. 5 Georgia, No. 11 Ole Miss at No. 6 Alabama, No. 10 Penn State at No. 7 Ohio State, and No. 9 Utah at No. 8 Notre Dame.

There are a few teams that I left off the top 12 that could easily land on it at the end of the season. Missouri is one of the teams I am keeping an eye on. The Tigers currently rank No. 11 in the nation, and they have a solid squad. No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 Oklahoma, and No. 18 Kansas State are three other teams that could work their way into upcoming predictions as well.
