The Big Ten released the home and away schedules for the 2026-2027 season, and the Illinois basketball team appears to be aided by some helpful circumstances.

While the full Illini schedule and dates have yet to be released, likely sometime in September, the location of the games can be a key indicator of who comes out on top in the final Big Ten standings

The home schedule is incredibly favorable for the Illini, with a little over half of their toughest games being played at State Farm Center. Given their preseason projections, they should be looked at as one of the top teams in the conference.

Being able to play Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, and Purdue at home should help give Illinois the edge. All of these teams will likely be near the top of the Big Ten standings and competing for the conference title, much like they were last season.

Likewise, they avoid the tougher West Coast trip option by facing USC and UCLA at home. USC appears to be the strongest team out west, likely followed by UCLA, so avoiding the travel for these stronger teams should benefit the Illini.

The away opponents also favor the Illini, although winning on the road in college basketball is never a given, no matter who the opponent is. Fortunately, the team should only face three truly tough games.

Playing on the road at Michigan and Purdue will prove to be a tall task, with a game at Indiana likely putting the Illini on upset watch against a rival. However, these three games will likely be the only challenges on their 13-game road schedule.

Winning on the road is crucial in claiming the Big Ten regular season crown, and there is a realistic world where Illinois only loses one or two games on the road.

The exact dates of these games will also provide a hint as to how well the team will do in conference play. These game locations could lead the Illini back to the top of the conference.
