Illinois basketball had a really good player in Ty Rodgers, but the last couple of years have been confusing.
Rodgers played for the Illini in 2022-23, and it seemed like the future was bright. He then suited up and started all 38 games for the Orange and Blue in 2023-24. That was the Elite 8 season.
The following year, Rodgers took a redshirt. He then spent last season dealing with an injury, so he failed to suit up again. It has been two full seasons since Illinois was able to see Rodgers in action.
After the magical run to the Final Four just about a month ago, Rodgers decided to find a new home. This is an understandable move considering some players just need a fresh start.
On Friday afternoon, the social media account for the Boise State Broncos announced that Rodgers has signed with them.

It is a disappointing ending to Rodgers’ career at Illinois. I really thought this kid could be good with the program. In his final year that he played in Champaign, he averaged 6.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
When I sit back and think, Brad Underwood is using David Mirkovic like he wanted to use Rodgers. Mirkovic just happens to be an All-American caliber player.
Boise State could do something with Illinois basketball transfer portal player Ty Rodgers that they have never done before
Rodgers having a fresh start is exciting. I can’t wait to see him play next season. He is a high-DI player who is going to be playing at a near-mid-major program. Boise State moves to the Pac-12 next season.
Without a doubt, Rodgers will start for Boise State. I am curious what the Broncos can do with that much talent on the roster?
Boise State has had over 20 wins in each of the last five seasons, but they missed out on the NCAA tournament in the last two campaigns.
Over their 56-year history, Boise State has only made the NCAA tournament 10 times, and they have never made it out of the first round. I would put money on Rodgers making a big impact for this program, and he will help lead the Broncos to at least the second round of the NCAA tournament. Big things are to come for this talented Swiss Army Knife.
