Illinois basketball could always use a little help in securing a victory in the Braggin’ Rights game against Missouri.

Heading into the contest, the Illini are the closest thing to healthy we have seen all season. This, along with about a week and a half off, should help in the fight against the Tigers.

Missouri can’t say the same, though. On Monday afternoon, Jeff Borzello of ESPN reported on social media that the Tigers will be without Jevon Porter.

This isn’t a huge loss for the starting rotation, but Porter was a big rotational piece who really gave the Tigers some good production. They will be without his average of 6.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

Porter was also giving Missouri 17.4 minutes per contest. Someone will now have to step up in his place if the Tigers want any chance to take down the Illini.

Missouri losing Jevon Porter will hurt them in the paint against the Illinois big men

Coming into the Braggin’ Rights game, Missouri had some good size. They have an impressively big backcourt, and Porter was a key member of the Tigers’ frontcourt.

Shawn Phillips Jr. is Missouri’s big man, but Porter was a nice option off the bench with his 6-foot-11 size. He is a good rebounder, as he ranks fifth on the team.

Illinois should be able to wear Missouri down even easier now that Porter is out of the picture. If any foul trouble comes Phillips’ way, the Tigers could be in a world of hurt.
