Illinois basketball recruiting has been on the right path since the late 2010s.
Once Josh Whitman plucked Brad Underwood away from Oklahoma State after one season in Stillwater, the Illini haven’t been the same.
Underwood has surrounded himself with some great coaches who bring in great talent. While past recruiting classes have been special, the class of 2027 could end up being the best of all-time if things go right this weekend.
On Thursday, Dushawn London of 247Sports reported that Moussa Kamissoko is taking an official visit this weekend to Illinois. He was already reported to be visiting Champaign, but the date is now set, and he will be in town starting Friday.

Kamissoko is a big visit for the Illini. He is a 6-foot-7, 180-pound small forward who is rated as a five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 14 player in the class of 2027.
Illinois isn’t done with just the Kamissoko visit, though. On Tuesday, more Earth-rocking news broke when Joe Tipton of On3.com reported that Darius Wabbington was changing his plans. He was supposed to take an official visit to Illinois in late October but decided to move that visit to this weekend as well.
Much like Kamissoko, Wabbington is another massive recruit. He is a 6-foot-11, 255-pound center who is a five-star recruit and ranked as the No. 13 player in the class of 2027.
Having these two mammoth recruits in the building at the same time is huge for the program. They can pitch that these two are the future of Illinois basketball together. They both could feed off each other for a season before heading to the NBA, which Illinois has shown that is a path that has been fruitful.

Illinois’ class of 2027 has a nice start so far. We have two commitments and rank No. 7 in the country. That number won’t stay there unless we add more and better talent.
Kamissoko and Wabbington wouldn’t just keep that number in the top 10, though. If Illinois were able to land both five-star recruits, they would give us the top class in the country. I am not sure anyone would knock us off our top spot, either.
What those two committing to the Illini would also do is give us the top two commitments in the rankings era, which started in the mid-2000s.
Right now, Will Riley has the top spot with a 0.9951 rating. Wabbington and Kamissoko have a .9959 and .9954 rating, respectively.
Another thing to think about is the potential lineup for Illinois in 2027-28. If Quentin Coleman somehow sticks around for a second season, you could be looking at three five-star players in the starting lineup. That would be incredible.
Illinois basketball is at a pretty special place right now. Having two huge recruits in the building is step one. Step two is landing them. Let’s build the greatest recruiting class in program history.
