Illinois basketball is riding a wave of success, and that isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

The 2026-27 season is scheduled to tip off on November 2 when Illinois welcomes in a former first-round matchup from the 2005 NCAA tournament, Fairleigh Dickinson.

While Illinois fans are excited for that date, there are other games that we are keeping an eye on. One of the biggest matchups of the season will be on the road at Cameron Indoor Stadium against Duke on November 17.

This could very easily be a Final Four preview on the court. Illinois and Duke will likely be top 10 teams when this game rolls around. What this game could also be is a Final Four preview when it comes to your finances.

The game between Illinois and Duke is just about a month away, and you better be looking at taking out a second mortgage to see a college basketball game in November.

When it comes to the resale market, the get-in price for this potential Final Four preview is $813. That is coming from StubHub, and you would have to buy two tickets at $813 a piece to get in.

Ticketmaster is even crazier. The cheapest ticket right now for the game is $1,124.54. That is literally for some of the worst seats at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Those seem like crazy prices, right? Well, they are. According to a Forbes article from April 2026, the Final Four get-in price was actually lower than the Illinois vs. Duke game on November 17.

The average ticket price to get into the Final Four last season, which included Illinois, was over $1,000. The cheapest ticket you could get was $675, which is $138 cheaper than the get-in price for a regular season game against two of the top teams in the country.

The Illinois vs. Duke ticket price puts other prime events to shame

There is no doubt that the Illinois vs. Duke game in November is going to be a great matchup between elite programs. That is still a lot of money for tickets.

Let’s compare that game to some of the biggest games in the country.

The Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians are about to have a winner-take-all game five in the ALDS. This game will determine who advances in the MLB Playoffs. The get-in price for that huge, meaningful game is $183. You can sit behind home plate for $526.

For the men’s basketball national championship game last season, you could get in the doors for $192, and the average price was $857.

Last season, the Chicago Bears took on the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Playoffs. That was one of the premier games in the NFL. You could get in the door at Soldier Field for $400.

It is a special time for the Illinois basketball program and everything that comes with it. The cost of being elite is paying top dollar to watch the Illini go up against a blue blood. The prices might get cheaper as we move closer to game time, but one thing that won’t change is the fact that these will be two giants of the game squaring off.
