The women's Illinois basketball team has found themselves a superstar out of Whitby, Ontario, and her name is Cearah Parchment.
Parchment, a four-star recruit out of high school who was ranked No. 49 overall in the class of 2025, has been absolutely sensational in her first season under for the Illini. She has raked in almost every award you can think of, ranging from multiple Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors to being named one of ESPN's top 10 impact freshmen.
She has all of the talent in the world and has become a top-notch running mate in Illinois' frontcourt with sophomore superstar Berry Wallace. Parchment has turned into one of the best freshmen in program history, and has now cemented that legacy by breaking the Illinois women's freshman scoring record.

It has been a whirlwind of a year for Parchment, as she was quickly thrown into Illinois' starting lineup along with fellow freshman Destiny Jackson. She was given the trust of Shauna Green and the Illinois program early and quickly made the most of it to the tune of 13.7 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.
Parchment has had plenty of monster games this season, including a 26-point outing against No. 2 UCLA, as well as a 25-point performance when Illinois faced No. 24 Nebraska. She has been one of the most consistent pieces in this lineup next to Wallace, which has led her to surpass former Illini Chatrice White's all-time record that was set in 2014-15.
Cearah Parchment is about to be a name to remember in the NCAA tournament
The Illini came into the NCAA tournament winners of two of their last three games and a 3.5-point favorite over No. 10 Colorado. The analysts were selling this as a big battle of the ages, with a younger Illini squad squeezing out a win against a more experienced Colorado unit.
But now, Green will have to deal with No. 2 Vanderbilt on its home court, which finished the regular season with a 28-4 overall record. It will be a tall task for the blue and orange, as Vanderbilt has not lost a game (17-0) at the historic Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville, Tennessee.
If Illinois wants to win this game, they are going to need all hands on deck from their entire roster, and that starts with Parchment. She has the ability to create shots from all three levels on the floor, especially with a three-point shooting percentage of 41.2%. But they will need their superstars to do superstar things.
If the Illini can pull off this massive upset, Parchment will certainly cement herself into college basketball lore. This will be seen as a 'David vs. Goliath' situation by a large portion of analysts across the country. But with what we've seen from this squad in previous weeks, it's safe to say that they're ready for the occasion.
