The Illinois football receiving corps is dominated by upperclassmen for the 2026 season.
The Illini, who ranked No. 58 in the country last season with 235.8 pass yards per game, will have a plethora of veteran pass-catchers for quarterback Katin Houser to throw to. This offense, on paper, has a lot of potential and could become a very lethal unit this season.
Even with all of the upperclassmen at the top of the depth chart, there is one receiver who fans should certainly be keeping an eye on as we make our way through the season. That is second-year wideout Brayden Trimble, who has been making waves throughout fall camp.

Trimble, a product of Mt. Zion, Illinois, was a three-star recruit in the class of 2025. He received offers from the likes of Illinois, Arkansas, Iowa, and Auburn, among others. He was electric during his time at Mt. Zion High School, recording 3,036 yards and 34 touchdowns on 215 receptions.
Last season, the 6-foot-1 wideout was used rather sparingly as a freshman for Illinois, appearing in three games prior to redshirting the remainder of the season. In 2026, Trimble is expected to take a major step forward in his development with the team.

The Illinois offense has a very interesting season ahead of them, as they will be breaking in a new quarterback, four new offensive linemen, and two new receivers from the transfer portal. On paper, this unit has a chance to do something special in 2026, and Trimble can certainly take advantage of it in his first full season with the program.
Trimble had a very impressive high school career at Mt. Zion, as he finished top 20 all-time in Illinois in career receptions and receiving yards. He is a tall, physical wideout.
This young man has all of the makings of a quality receiver in offensive coordinator Barry Lunney Jr.'s scheme. He is a multi-tool player who can extend plays with his legs and will fight for every extra yard when he needs to.
In 2026, Trimble will have to contend for targets against the likes of Alex Perry, Jayshon Platt, Collin Dixon, and Hudson Clement. But with what he's been showing at camp, plus the experience that he gained in his freshman season, don't be surprised if he makes an impact in 2026.
The future looks bright for Trimble, and this season is the first step to what can be a very impressive career.
