I still maintain the Indiana game was the biggest game of the season for the Illinois football team, but we have an incredible opportunity to knock off the top team in the land.
Ohio State is a juggernaut. They have a great team, but the Illini will have a chance to shock the world and not only secure a win over the No. 1 team in the country, but a victory would also launch the program into the top 10 in the country. There is a lot riding on this huge matchup.

- Illinois football vs Ohio State Buckeyes – Series history
When I was searching the series history between Illinois and Ohio State, I honestly expected this series to be uglier. While it isn’t pretty, it isn’t as bad as I thought.
Ohio State, obviously, leads the series. They are 69-30-4 against Illinois. This includes a nine-game winning streak with the last game being an Ohio State thumping, 52-14.
Illinois hasn’t played Ohio State since 2017, though. Those were dark days for this program, so I expect a much different result on Saturday.
I will note, the last time the Illini beat the Buckeyes was that infamous game in 2007. Illinois was unranked while Ohio State was the No. 1 team in the country. This victory helped elevate us to the Rose Bowl that season.
