Illinois football is looking to secure another victory in week two, as the Duke Blue Devils come to town.
The Illini looked good in the second half against UAB, which resulted in a 19-point win. There was only one bad injury in the contest, and that was to right guard Brandon Henderson.
In Bret Bielmea’s weekly press conference, he talked about Henderson and how long he could be out.
“He (Brandon Henderson) won’t be available this week. I do think he will be back sooner than later, but he won’t be with us this week. It could be as short as two weeks, could be as long as four to six.”
That is a tough blow to the Illinois offensive line, as Henderson is the only returning starter for the program.
Illinois football injury report vs Duke Blue Devils
- Daniel Brown LB – Questionable
- Jayshon Platt WR – Out
- Brandon Henderson RG – Out, 2-4 Weeks
- Alex Perry WR – Out for Season
- BJ Thurman TE – Out for Season
- Tanner Hollinger TE – Out for Season
- Grant Smith TE – Out for Season
Illinois has been relatively injury-free this season. The biggest injury issues right now, besides Henderson, are with Daniel Brown and Jayshon Platt.
Good news came at the weekly press conference from Bielema. He touched on Brown's health and whether we can get him back for the Duke game.
“I think there might be a chance for Daniel Brown. Jayshon, not.”
So, it sounds like things are progressing with Brown. He would be a nice addition back on defense, as he would help strengthen the core and not let so many plays go up the middle.
Overall, though, Illinois has been super fortunate on the injury front. The tight ends who are out for the season aren’t a massive loss. Nearly all of the injuries are on offense, and that is the side of the ball that has been playing well.
Hopefully, Brown can get back on the field in week two. He would be a welcome sight, and I am sure the Illinois defense would see an improvement with him on the field.
