We are a game into the 2026 Illinois football season, and this kicks off the fall for the Orange and Blue.
News doesn’t stop for the Illini, though. There is news buzzing all around every program. The news ticker never stops.
Bret Bielema celebrates UAB win by taking in mammoth high school matchup
Illinois didn’t have to wait until Saturday to get a victory. The first game of the season went in favor of the Illini over UAB.
Bielema had some great quotes after the contest. I am sure he watched film, but on Friday night he went out on the town.

No, Bielema didn’t go party. He went and took in the sights and sounds of a mammoth matchup between Mt. Carmel and Nazareth Academy. He was seen on the sidelines of what ended up being a lopsided win in favor of the Caravan.
Illinois golf lands another elite golfer for 2028
Mike Small has built an incredible golf program at Illinois. The 2025-26 season was one of the worst in years, but the Illini still managed to finish second in the Big Ten Tournament and got to the final day of the NCAA Regional.
Small doesn’t rebuild; he reloads. On Friday, Illinois was able to land Jonathan Ward. He is a class of 2028 golfer from the state of Iowa.

Ward is now entering his junior year at Waukee High School. He is coming off a sophomore season in which he finished in a tie for second at the IHSAA Boys 4A State Golf Championship, shooting a two-round total of -1, one shot behind the medalist.
Brad Underwood already has the interest of a 5-star shortly after offer
In today’s recruiting game, when a scholarship offer comes in really doesn’t matter that much. It used to be about great relationships built over time. Now, it is more like speed dating.
Illinois came in with a scholarship offer to Bentley Lusakueno back on August 19. That was less than three weeks ago. The recruitment is now moving quickly.

On Wednesday, Dushawn London of 247Sports reported that Lusakueno has included Illinois in his official visit plans. That is another five-star who is planning to visit Champaign. That is big for the Illini.
