While the men’s program started off on the right foot on Monday night, the women’s Illinois basketball team begins on Wednesday.

Entering the 2026-27 season as the No. 23 team in the country, Illinois is poised to have a big year. Shauna Green has the roster laced with talent, and Detroit Mercy should feel the wrath of the Orange and Blue.

There could end up being some rust, as this is the first game of the season. Don’t expect Detroit Mercy to keep up, though. The Illini are too deep and talented for this game to be close.
