The Illinois basketball team took over Nashville on Saturday, and it isn’t a far jaunt up to Columbus days later.
On Tuesday, the Illini take on a tough Ohio State program. The Buckeyes have started the season well, with their only blemish being a one-point loss on the road against Pittsburgh.
Illinois will be by far their toughest test of the season, though. Make sure you don’t miss the first Big Ten matchup of the season for the Illini.
Here is the Illinois basketball vs Ohio State how to watch, series history, and players to watch
- Illinois basketball vs Ohio State – How to watch
Illinois continues their road tear, as Ohio State is next. The Illini will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on the Buckeyes. This game will take place on Tuesday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. CT/7:30 p.m. ET. It won’t be on regular TV, as you can find this game on the Peacock app.
- Illinois basketball vs Ohio State – Series history
The first game between Illinois and Ohio State took place back in 1915 when we won 24-17. I think we all remember that barnburner. Surprisingly enough, the Illini actually dominate the series overall, taking a 113-82 lead all-time.
Illinois has had Ohio State’s number in recent games, too. We are currently on a three-game winning streak, with the last win coming last season when the Orange and Blue took down the Buckeyes 87-79.
- Illinois basketball vs Ohio State – Players to watch
Ohio State is good this season, sitting at 7-1. They are led by Bruce Thornton, who has been around for just about forever. The talented guard is averaging 20.1 points per game this season while also contributing 5.1 rebounds and 4.3 assists per contest.
Illinois is also going up against some impressive size for the Buckeyes. Christopher Tilly, their 7-foot big man, was a great transfer portal addition and is averaging 13.9 points and 5.0 rebounds.
I am excited to see the matchup between Kylan Boswell and Thornton. These two are both bulldogs, and it should be a fun watch on both ends of the court.
Keep an eye on Keaton Wagler, too. I think Illinois can expose a big mismatch in size, as Wagler has played both the No. 1 and No. 2 guard spots this season while standing at 6-foot-6. Ohio State’s biggest guard is 6-foot-2. That is something Illinois can expose.
