Four years ago, Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito transferred to Illinois for his final season of college football and led the Fighting Illini to an 8-5 overall record, including an appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Since then, he made a name for himself as the backup quarterback who stepped up for the New York Giants in 2023 as Tyrod Taylor and Daniel Jones rode the bench.
Last season, he backed up quarterback Drake Maye and Joshua Dobbs for the New England Patriots as they made their run to the Super Bowl. Now, the Pats have signed DeVito to a new two-year deal worth $7.4 million, with $2 millino guaranteed.

DeVito didn't record any snaps last season as Maye was the picture of health and consistency for New England.
However, during his two seasons with the Giants, he earned 1,358 passing yards in just 12 games, scoring eight passing touchdowns and throwing just three interceptions. He also ran for 227 yards and one touchdown on the ground while playing for New York.

During his one season at Illinois, DeVito amassed 2,650 passing yards, 35 rushing yards, 13 receiving yards, and 21 total touchdowns. Throughout all five of his collegiate seasons, he earned 6,516 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns, 253 rushing yards, and 10 rushing touchdowns.
DeVito went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and was signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2023. On August 27, 2025, the Patriots claimed DeVito off waivers to play backup to Maye and Dobbs.
