I can’t tell you the last time the Illinois football team had a player who could take the top off a defense.
Honestly, that doesn’t happen often with any team. The Illini, especially, haven’t had a burner who could just run down the field and blow past the defensive backs.
I am hoping that Bret Bielema and the Illini can seriously get in the Davion Crumitie game, though. On Friday, Illinois extended Crumitie a scholarship offer.
Blessed to receive a offer from university of Illinois🧡 #agtg✝️ @Rhsathletics1 @RickardsFB3013 @2livebari_ @coachjstepp @DmCrumitie007 @7v7Takeoff pic.twitter.com/3QZdzfD9sC

Crumitie is a 5-foot-11, 160-pound athlete from Rickards High School in Florida. He isn’t rated or ranked just yet, but the class of 2027 burner is starting to pick up some scholarship offers.
Illinois is his latest offer, but Crumitie already has offers from both Sacramento State and Syracuse as well.
The Illinois football offense needs more variety at the wide receiver position, and Davion Crumitie would do the trick
It is so fun watching Crumitie play football. He is a game-changer for an offense, as he can take the top off a defense. His speed off the line of scrimmage is phenomenal, and once he gets going, a defensive back doesn’t have a chance against him.
For much of my life, Illinois hasn’t had that type of offensive talent. We usually have the solid-sized wide receiver who has good hands but isn’t blowing past anyone. Most of the wide receivers Illinois has had have been possession pass catchers.
Crumitie would be a different animal. Illinois can still have those possession wide receivers, but having someone who can get past the secondary will give the Illini offense a new element that we haven’t seen before.
I love this offer by the Illini. Crumitie will shoot up the national recruiting rankings in the next few months, and hopefully, getting in early will make a difference.
