Illinois basketball is putting together a decent recruiting class for 2025.

The Illini have two commitments thus far. Keaton Wagler was the first commitment back in mid-September. He pledged to the Illini and is a three-star recruit who is the No. 233 player in the country.

Brandon Lee soon followed Wagler. He committed to the program on September 25 and is a four-star recruit who is the No. 95 player in the class of 2025.

These two guards will give Illinois some nice backcourt and wing depth. We need more frontcourt help, especially with so many departures expected after this season. One nice option is Spencer Ahrens.

On Tuesday, Dushawn London of 247Sports reported that Ahrens is ready to make a decision on his future. He will decide between Boise State, Washington, Stanford, Gonzaga, San Francisco, and Illinois. This decision will be made on Saturday, December 21.

Spencer Ahrens would give Illinois basketball another top 100 recruit for 2025

This would be a great addition to the Illinois program. We have to fight with some great teams, but if we do land this kid, he would give the Illini some great frontcourt help.

Ahrens is a 6-foot-9, 210-pound power forward who is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 79 player in the class of 2025. He is also the No. 20 power forward in the country and the No. 9 player coming out of California.

The Bella Vista star could see playing time early in his career if he did end up picking Illinois. There are likely to be multiple departures in the Illini frontcourt.

I fully expect Will Riley to be a one-and-done regardless of how he is currently playing. His potential is high, and that is what NBA scouts will be eyeing. Ben Humrichous will be gone too due to aging out.

Those will be two huge holes to fill. Ahrens could help fill those voids and give the Illini minutes in year one. That would be big for the program. Get Ahrens in the door, and let’s see what this freshman class can do.
