The sky was the limit for Kerby Joseph with the Detroit Lions, as he was the best at his position.
Drafted in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Illinois, Joseph was an immediate impact player. He had 19 pass deflections and eight interceptions in his first two seasons.
Year three was when the world took notice. Joseph led the NFL with nine interceptions, and he was first-team All-Pro, which means he was the best free safety in the game.
2025 rolled around, and Joseph continued his hot play. Three interceptions through six games was a tear that would likely get him another All-Pro designation. In week six, everything went wrong. Joseph went down with a knee injury that lingered, sidelining him for the rest of the season.
On Tuesday afternoon, Dan Campbell gave an update on Joseph and his health.
“His rehab is coming along very well. We are talking about on down the road, the season has already begun. But I like where Kerby is at.”

This is some much-needed positive news that has been rare in the Joseph camp. Back in December 2025, Joseph said his knee was messed up.
In July of this year, Joseph fielded questions about his health. He stated that he was super optimistic about the injury.
Kerby Joseph coming back would be music to the Detroit Lions’ ears
It really is sad that an injury had to happen to such a budding career. Joseph can still come back and play at a high level, though.
While it might be a tough road, he is optimistic, and from the sound of things, Campbell is optimistic about getting Joseph back sometime this season, too.
The Lions need Joseph back in uniform sometime, as their secondary struggled without him. At the height of Joseph’s powers in 2024, he helped lead Detroit to 1.3 takeaways per game, which ranked No. 11 in the NFL.
Even though Joseph played in six games and had three interceptions, the Lions dropped in takeaways as soon as he left the field. Last season, Detroit averaged 1.1 takeaways per game, which ranked No. 20 in the NFL.
When healthy, Joseph is not just one of the best players at his position, but he is one of the best players in the NFL. Hopefully, we get to see him back on the field sometime this year.
