All of the talk right now is about the Illinois basketball team’s involvement in the recruitment of five-star talent.
Brad Underwood and the Illini coaching staff have the program in the middle of some heated battles. While all of that is going on, let’s not forget the fact that there are already two commitments for the class of 2027.
Quinton Kitt pledged in 2025, and we are coming up on a year committed here in a few months. Mason Martin committed at the beginning of 2026. So, both players have been committed for at least eight months.
On Wednesday, those two future Illinois basketball players got a bump in their recruiting profile. 247Sports updated the class of 2027, and both Illini saw a jump in their national standing.
Entering the week, Martin was the No. 126 player in the country. The updated 247Sports rankings now have the 6-foot-5 guard as the No. 118 player. He had an eight-spot jump and is creeping toward the top 100.
The biggest jump we saw was from Kitt. He was already a four-star recruit who was the No. 96 player in the class of 2027. With the updated rankings, Kitt saw an 11-spot jump and is now the No. 85 player in the country.
There are times when the recruiting rankings drop a player, but Illinois saw a boost with both of our recruits. The class of 2027 only got stronger on Wednesday, and we aren’t even close to being done adding.
Illinois basketball has eyes on some top talent that saw movement in the updated 247Sports rankings
I think Kitt and Martin are solid base recruits to help fill out the class of 2027. Illinois needs some top dogs, though. We are a program that brings in top talent, and that can’t go away.
Underwood has been after some big players in recent weeks. We are offering five-star talent left and right, and most of that talent has seen some adjustments to their national standing.
The only Illinois target to stay put is NaVarro Bowman Jr. He is the No. 11 player in the country and stayed at No. 11 after the adjustments.
Two Illinois targets had bumps in ranking. Moussa Kamissoko was the No. 20 player in the class of 2027, and now the wing is the No. 19 player in the country. Cracking the top 20 is a pretty big deal.
The biggest mover was Darius Wabbington. Illinois needs a big man for the future, and Wabbington went from being the No. 15 player in the nation to the No. 12 recruit in the class of 2027. That is a massive three-spot jump, as he approaches the top 10.
Illinois has recently landed on the top 10 list for King Gibson. He is the only player among the elite recruits the Illini are after to see a drop in national ranking. Gibson dropped four spots from No. 12 to No. 16. Still, being in the top 20 is something special.
Underwood has a lot of work to do to fill out the class of 2027. Illinois still has plenty of options, and despite some movement in the national rankings, all of these options are still top 20 recruits. Let’s go catch some big fish.
