Chase, Sydney Brown brought fire to Bielema's first year at Illinois

Brothers will be brothers regardless of the situation, and that was certainly the case for Chase and Sydney Brown during their careers at Illinois.

The Brown twins, who both played for the Illini until the 2022 season, were key players for both Lovie Smith and Bret Bielema. These two were the epitome of football guys in college, but apparently couldn't face each other during practice, as told by Bielema in a recent social media post.

Last year, during the 2025 Big Ten Media Days, the Snapback Trivia had Bielema on to play a game called 'Guessing Guys Coach Coached,' where they showed him a picture of players he coached in the past to see if he could still name them.

It was a lot of fun going down memory lane with Bielema, but it was his story about the Brown twins that really highlighted the entire video. At the 1:09 mark, Bielema talked about when he pitted the two against each other in his first year, saying;

"We brought Sydney on a blitz, and they hit, and they hit the ground, and they started a fight that lasted until we could pull them off of each other. It was unbelievable!"

The best part of the entire story, however, had to be when Bielema called their high school coach afterward, where he said, "Oh yeah, you can't have them play against each other" in a very matter-of-fact way.

The entire story from Bret Bielema sounded like a scene out of a football comedy movie

When you think of football comedy movies like The Waterboy, The Longest Yard, and The Comebacks, you tend to picture a bunch of bumbling goofs who are trying to put a team together in some way, shape, or form.

That is certainly not the case when it comes to Chase and Sydney Brown, as they are two well-polished athletes who are talented enough to be drafted into the NFL. They are the farthest thing from a pair of bumbling goofs that a person could possibly think of.

When it comes to the twins fighting each other at practice, and their high school giving Bielema instructions on how to handle them, it's hard not to chuckle at the situation a bit. It's hard not to think about this moment being in a feature film, or at least a made-for-TV movie.

The Brown twins left a lasting impression on Champaign, especially with their extravagant play on the field. This moment was not only comical, but it was also a prime example of how much these two love football, and how lucky Illinois was to have them.
