College football received a major win this week, as members of the Big Ten voted on a rule banning NFL players from returning to play for Big Ten schools.
The landmark ruling was unanimously passed by the Big Ten's athletic directors on Tuesday, shutting the door on any NFL players returning to college. The conference also released a statement further explaining their decision, highlighting their definition of a 'pro.'

The Big Ten's ruling is self-explanatory, as they will "prohibit football players who have signed a professional contract, were on a professional roster at any point, or declared for the NFL draft as an underclassman without withdrawing from maintaining eligibility for athletic competition at a conference institution."
For Illinois football, this means that a return of Melvin Priestly and Hank Beatty is off the table, since the former Illini have signed pro contracts with the Lions and the Titans.

When asked about the unanimous ruling by the Big Ten, Bielema went on to say, "I think once you're a college player, you're a college player, and once you're a pro player, you're a pro player."
Bielema gave the take that a large collective of fans already has, but he also said something that every fan should be proud of, "just tell me the rules and I can play in it."
There is just an odd beauty in Bielema's words, as he shows that he has his own opinion on the matter but also cares about winning football games. He cares about the integrity of the sport, but he also cares about his program at the same time.
Thankfully, the Big Ten put a stop to NFL players returning to college, so fans don't have to worry about it any further. To know that Bielema is this much of a 'football guy' should be a great sign for Illini fans across the country.
