4. The Illinois offensive line worries me
I don’t have too many worries for the Illinois football program right now. I would say nearly every position group is holding their own.
Luke Altmyer is doing a great job behind center. I can’t ask more from him. The Illinois wide receivers and tight ends are playing well. I love what the Illini defense has done, too. The front seven is working well, and the defensive backs are causing turnovers.
The only issue I have with the program is the offensive line. I was frustrated with how the Illinois offensive line played in the Duke game.
Early on, JC Davis was getting torched by the Blue Devils’ defensive end. He was going under Davis, and we had no answer for it.
There were multiple times the interior offensive line struggled as well. Josh Kreutz didn’t have a great game, as they bull rushed him. I thought Illinois allowed too many pressures up the middle.
Illinois has to get the offensive line in tune for the rest of the season. This is just the beginning of the tough games. If we want any chance to win 11 games this season, the offensive line has to be better.
