4. Luke Altmyer was able to spread the wealth

It was a struggle for the Illinois offense against Nebraska. Putting up seven points the entire game is pretty embarrassing. But I am glad the Illini wide receivers were able to get some action.

Luke Altmyer had an average game, throwing for 289 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Those 289 yards went out to a variety of pass-catchers, though.

Nine different Illinois players caught a pass on Friday night. This included seven of the pass catchers pulling in at least two passes in the game.

Isaiah Williams once again paced Illinois in catches. He was able to pull in eight receptions for 57 yards. Halfway through the 2023 campaign, Williams is projected to finish with 76 receptions for 1006 yards. Those are pretty good numbers.

The catch Pat Bryant made on Friday night was pretty spectacular. He had a one-hand grab that went for a touchdown to bring the game to 17-7. This reception helped propel him to four receptions for 76 yards and that lone score.

I also liked seeing Illinois get the tight ends involved. Tip Reiman had three receptions for 24 yards and Griffin Moore went for two receptions for 22 yards, despite having a bad fumble.

Without a question, the Illinois offense isn’t playing well. They have some serious issues. But I am happy to see a wide variety of players getting involved in the passing game. The more playing time and receptions this season, the more experience they build up for the 2024 campaign.
