No. 4 Jase Butler

Getting some scoring help at the No. 2 spot would be nice entering the 2024-25 campaign. While he isn’t the most highly-rated recruit in the country, Jase Butler would be a nice addition.

Butler is a 6-foot-4, 180-pound combo guard from The Branson School in California. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 36 combo guard in the country. He is also the No. 26 player coming out of the state of California.

It doesn’t look like Illinois has offered Butler just yet, but there is an obvious connection between the two. Butler recently released his top six list of programs he is eyeing, and he kept UC Santa Barbara, Colorado State, San Francisco, Loyola-Marymount, New Mexico, and Illinois alive for his commitment.

There is a lot to like about Butler’s game. He is a smooth-shooting southpaw who can score at multiple levels. I would say his three-point shooting is probably his specialty, but he isn’t limited to just outside shooting. Butler has a nice first move and can get into the paint and to the rim. Offensively, he seems to be underrated.

I am a bit surprised Illinois hasn’t offered Butler a scholarship. I would imagine that offer is coming soon. This kid has a nice feel to his game and is someone who could help us win down the road.
