Illinois basketball is going after a little help at the point guard position in the class of 2025.

Enter the upcoming 2023-24 campaign, the Illini are without a traditional point guard. Brad Underwood and the coaching staff will have to earn their keep and develop a player on the roster to handle the ball. With Chester Frazier as an assistant coach, I believe this can happen.

Moving forward, it would be nice to have more point guard options on the roster. That is why I like Illinois extending scholarship offers to more and more of these types of players. On Tuesday, Azavier Robinson took to social media to announce that the Illini had extended him an offer.

Illinois basketball is trying to pluck another talented player out of Indiana in Azavier Robinson

Robinson is a 6-foot, 165-pound point guard from Lawrence North High School in Indiana. He is rated as a four-star recruit who is the No. 97 player in the class of 2025. He is also the No. 16 point guard in the nation and the No. 6 player coming out of Indiana.

Illinois’ offer was a big one for Robinson, but it wasn’t his first. He has double-digit scholarship offers on the table right now with some of the notable names being Oklahoma State, St. John’s, and TCU, to name a few.

Opinion

The first thing that jumps out to me about Robinson’s game is his tenacity. He is a bulldog out there on the basketball court.

I love how Robinson plays the game. He can score at all levels. He is at his best when he is driving to the hoop and creating contact, though. Robinson has a non-stop motor, and I love players who play the game that way.

If Illinois can go into the heart of Indiana and snag Robinson, that would be huge for the program. Underwood was able to go up into northeast Indiana and pluck Luke Goode out of Homestead. Landing a player like Robinson from the class of 2025 would help strengthen that Indiana pipeline.
