3. Detroit Pistons
Every team will have a bad contract or two. There are also a handful of teams that have a bad roster. And then there are the Detroit Pistons. I believe this is the worst roster in the NBA and maybe the worst roster I have seen in the last 10 years.
The Pistons have a couple of good pieces who can grow into All-Star-level players, but there isn’t much hope in Detroit, especially coming off a 17-win campaign.
- Additions
Getting Cade Cunningham back from injury is going to be crucial for the Pistons. He played in a total of 12 games last season, but he should be back and ready to go.
I also like the addition of Joe Harris. He will provide some depth as far as scoring goes on the perimeter. Harris is coming from another dysfunctional franchise in the Brooklyn Nets.
- Departures/Potential Departures
Honestly, Detroit didn’t have meaningful departures this offseason. You have to have players to have meaningful departures, and last season was an absolute disaster. The Pistons had 17 different players start a game for the franchise in 2022-23.
- Where Ayo Dosunmu would fit in
When Cunningham does play, he is a quality talent. But he has only played 76 games in his first two seasons. There is no certainty that he will remain healthy this year either.
I love Jayden Ivey at the No. 2. I think he has a bright future in this role. Beyond these two starting guards in the backcourt, Detroit is a mess. They are relying on Monte Morris and Alec Burks to stabilize the second rotation. That is not the answer.
The Pistons need a solid backup guard who can play multiple roles on the court. I think Ayo would provide that depth. He can be a solid depth piece for a Detroit team looking for consistency.
