The Illinois basketball team is constantly recruiting in hopes of landing players who can help the program in the future.

As of right now, the Illini are pretty much finished with the class of 2023. There could be another recruit or transfer on the horizon, as a scholarship opened up recently, but for the most part, the 2023 class is finished.

The class of 2024 has started off on the right foot. Top 50 recruit Morez Johnson Jr. is our lone commitment right now, but there are some great options still left who could join him in Champaign. I fully expect this class to be pretty special when it is all said and done.

And then we come to the class of 2025. As of late, Brad Underwood and the Illinois coaching staff have started to focus more efforts on the 2025 group. This class is going to produce some incredible talent, and I want Illinois to be in the mix for a lot of names.

Here is my Illinois basketball recruiting wish list for the class of 2025

No. 5 Phoenix Gill

The first player on my wish list for the class of 2025 is a familiar name to many Illinois basketball fans. I would love it if the Illini were able to land Phoenix Gill.

Gill is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard from St. Ignatius High School in Illinois. He isn’t rated or ranked just yet by 247Sports, but that will come down the road. As of right now, Gill has a handful of scholarship offers, but I believe his first offer came from Illinois.

This would be a big commitment for the Illini for a couple of reasons. The first would be the name. Gill’s father, Kendall, was a legend for the Illinois basketball program. Landing his son should be a top priority just purely based on the name.

But let’s not look past the actual talent that Gill brings to the court. I believe Gill could be a pretty good guard at the next level. He has solid handles, and he can shoot from anywhere on the court. I see Gill as more of a No. 2 or No. 3 on the court. I believe he will probably grow a little bit over the next couple of years too. He is someone I want on the Illinois basketball team.
