No. 4 Alfonso Plummer
Illinois wasn’t the second stop for some of the players on this list. Sometimes, like in Alfonso Plummer’s case, Champaign was his third stop.
The first stop for Plummer came at Arizona Western College. He would end up averaging 18.6 points per game in his lone season in the junior college ranks. This great showing got him noticed by the Utah Utes.
With Utah, the 6-foot-1 guard would continue to improve his game. During Plummer’s final season with the Utes, he averaged 13.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. He was also a capable three-point shooter at 38.3%.
Plummer had one year of eligibility left, so he decided to take his talents elsewhere. After a long recruiting battle, Brad Underwood and the Illini were able to land this sharpshooting three-point ace.
In his only season in Champaign, Plummer would average 14.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He also knocked down 40.8% of his three-pointers, which is an insane number.
Plummer wasn’t the No. 1 option for Illinois in 2021-22, but he was still able to put up huge numbers. The Illini also made it to the second round of the NCAA tournament. For these reasons, I think he earned the No. 4 spot on this list.
