The official list is starting to build, and the Illinois football team will be hosting numerous talented players in June.

I love how the Illini started the class of 2024. We currently have two players committed, and both of the talented recruits are on the front lines.

Brandon Hansen was the first pledge for 2024. He is going to help anchor the offensive line in the near future. The next commitment was from Angelo McCullom. He is a defensive lineman who will make quarterbacks run in fear.

There are multiple players who could be the next commitment for the Illini. One of the options is defensive lineman, Leroy Jackson.

Illinois football is getting a big official visit from Leroy Jackson in the coming months

Jackson would be a good addition to the Illini program. He is a 6-foot-1, 280-pound defensive lineman from Lee County High School in Georgia. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 92 defensive lineman in the country. He is also the No. 98 player coming out of Georgia.

Two official visits have been set up for Jackson. The first team to get a visit is Illinois on June 9. Minnesota will get the next official visit on June 23.

One of the biggest problems with the previous coaching regime was the fact we didn’t build young depth within the program. We didn’t have players waiting in the wings who could come in and give us meaningful snaps.

I believe Jackson is that type of player. He isn’t ranked nationally just yet, but with at least 10 scholarship offers – the biggest ones from Cincinnati, Minnesota, and Illinois – I could see Jackson being ranked somewhere in the 1,200 range.

Jackson is a fun football player to watch. He reminds me a lot of Calvin Avery. Jackson is a wrecking ball on the defensive line. He has a great explosion off the line, and he can overpower the opposing team. I love how sneaky quick Jackson is as well.

Entering the Illinois program, I see Jackson playing on the nose of a 3-4 defense. He would fill this role while McCullom would play more on the end.

I mentioned that I think Jackson ends up being ranked around No. 1200 in the country, but from what I see, he should be much higher. I would venture to say, if Jackson was 6-foot-3, he would probably be a lock as a top 500 recruit. Recruiting sites and programs are underrating this kid. I am excited Illinois has an official visit set up.
