3 Bold Predictions for Illinois vs Ohio State
1. Illinois Wins By Double-Digits
Ohio State is in disastrous shape right now. The team is 1-14 both outright and against the spread (ATS) in its last 15 games, while Illinois is 10-4 ATS in its last 14.
These teams are going in opposite directions, and I think the Illini win by 10+. Frankly, I don’t see how Ohio State is going to score. Illinois ranks 18th nationally in opponent effective field goal percentage (45.8%) while the Buckeyes are 140th in effective field goal percentage (51.3%) and shoot free throws at one of the lowest rates in the country.
The Buckeyes were held to 61 points or fewer in three of their last five games, including a 41-point debacle against Michigan State. Expect those issues to continue as Illinois cruises to victory.

2. Under The Total
Sticking with that logic, I’m taking the under in this game as well. It hit by 19 points in the first meeting between these teams and is 7-3 in Illinois’s last 10 games.
While Ohio State shoots fairly well from the perimeter, the Fighting Illini rank 306th in three-point shooting percentage (31.4%). The Buckeyes’ pace of play ranks outside of the top 225 nationally as well, so the style both teams play suits an under bet.
Both teams rank outside of the top 100 in free throw rate as well, so I’m confidently predicting a low-scoring game.
3. Terrance Shannon Jr. Scores 25+
Averaging just under 18 points per game on the season, Illinois’ leading scorer is getting more aggressive and becoming more of a scorer as the season goes along.
He had 17 points in the first meeting but didn’t make a three-pointer. In his last five games, he’s made at least one three every time and multiple three-pointers four times. If he drains a couple from beyond the arc, 25+ points is easily in range.
He’s scored 46 points over the Illini’s last two games with 19 free-throw attempts in that stretch. Trust Shannon’s rise to continue as he torches Ohio State’s backcourt.
