Illinois basketball has a huge matchup against No. 2 Texas on Tuesday night.

The No. 17 ranked Illini will take on the Longhorns in the Jimmy V Classic. This is an important matchup for both programs. Texas is looking to stay in the top three and undefeated, while Illinois is wanting to knock off another top 25 program and continue their march to the NCAA tournament.

Here are the Illinois basketball betting odds, predictions, and game info against Texas.

Odds

  • Illinois vs. Texas – Spread

The current spread for the game against Texas stands at Illinois +4. That means we are getting four points in this game, and Las Vegas thinks that Texas is four points better than the Orange and Blue.

Advice

Illinois can attack teams from various parts of the floor. Texas is a great three-point defensive team, but if the Illini aren’t hitting from distance, then I think we dump the ball down low to Dain Dainja, or we can have one of our versatile guards or wings drive the ball. Texas hasn’t played a team like Illinois yet.

I think the Illini will keep this game close throughout. Look for it to be a high-scoring affair with the game coming down to the last second. With that being said, I like the Illini +4 in this matchup.

Prediction – Illinois +4

  • Illinois vs. Texas – Moneyline

I am currently seeing the moneyline at Illinois +160 and Texas at -190. That means a $100 bet on Illinois would net you a profit of $160 if the Illini win the game.

Advice

Now this one is going to be tougher than the spread. I love Illinois +4 because this is a gritty team, but the Longhorns are a really good program. They have already knocked off two solid teams in Gonzaga and Creighton.

Honestly, these are two very equal teams. As I mentioned earlier, I think the game comes down to a last-second shot. I do believe Illinois’ defense, overall, is better. While Texas is giving up fewer points, Illinois has played a tougher schedule. We can attack the Longhorns in multiple ways on offense and defense. I think the Illini will squeak this one out.

Prediction – Illinois +160

  • Illinois vs. Texas – Over/Under

It looks like the over/under in the Illinois vs Texas game is set at 140.5 points. That means both teams are projected to score around 70 points apiece. You are getting -110 odds for either over or under as well.

Advice

Illinois and Texas both like to run the court. The Longhorns are in the top 120 in possessions per game while the Illini are in the top 60. These two teams are going to put up a lot points because of the number of shots they will have at the rim.

On top of the number of possessions being high, both programs are in the top 100 in three-pointers attempted per contest. That means they will be firing up shots from deep. The only caveat to this is that Texas is bad at shooting the three-point shot and ranks sub-300 in the nation. Illinois is about the middle of the pack.

I think, at the end of the day, both teams are going to put up a lot of points based on the style of play. I could see this game being in the 160s.

Prediction – Over 140.5 points
