2. Tommy DeVito had a solid game

Illinois has always needed a solid quarterback who could fling the ball down the field and complete passes. I think we have that with Tommy DeVito.

I have said that DeVito is exactly what I want for an Illinois quarterback. He showed up once again against Virginia and was what this offense needed. He can move the ball down the field and get the offense going.

DeVito would finish the game with 196 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He also completed 68% of his passes, which is a number that I would take every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

There are some issues every once in a while with DeVito, though. He can get a little wild on occasion. DeVito threw an interception early in the game that was massively underthrown to his wide receiver. He also threw across his body over the middle of the field into double coverage late in the game. That ball wasn’t intercepted but probably should have been.

Overall, though, I have no problems with what I saw out of DeVito on Saturday. He doesn’t need to be the hero, but we need him to be solid. He looks to be getting comfortable in that role. I am excited to see what this Illinois offense can do for the rest of the 2022 campaign with DeVito at the helm.
