5. Trey McKenney

It is never too early to think about the future of Illinois basketball. While the class of 2023 and 2024 are being put together, Illinois is still thinking about the class of 2025.

One of the biggest targets for the 2025 class could end up being Trey McKenney. He is a 6-foot-4, 205-pound shooting guard from St. Mary’s High School and resides in Flint, Michigan. He isn’t rated or ranked by 247Sports, but that is due to him being from the class of 2025. They haven’t come close to releasing the full rankings.

McKenney is clearly going to be a superstar player, though. He already has 13 scholarship offers, and most of them are from big-time programs. Illinois is one of the teams that has extended an offer, and it looks like we are making this kid a priority for the future.

Not only has Illinois offered McKenney, but Brad Underwood has already had him in for an unofficial visit. He visited the Illinois campus back in early August. This early connection is extremely important for the potential addition of McKenney down the road.

I love that Illinois isn’t resting on a great class of 2022. This coaching staff realizes that every recruiting class needs to bring in talent. The future is so bright for the Orange and Blue.
