Illinois football has been doing well in the 2023 recruiting class, but they still have their eyes open for 2024 recruits.

The Illini are on a roll as of late, getting a transfer wide receiver for 2022 and an interior offensive lineman for 2023. Illinois has had momentum with those two recruiting classes, and they are trying to gain steam in the class of 2024 with a scholarship offer to Brandon Jacob.

Jacob is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound safety who plays for Evans High School in Orlando, Florida. Right now, Jacob is not rated nationally by 247Sports, but he has racked up some impressive offers. He has offers from schools such as Florida St., Indiana, Iowa St., Kentucky, and Nebraska. Based on those offers, I assume Jacob will be rated on recruiting sites by his senior season.

Illinois football coaching staff places a high value on the safety position.

Since Bret Bielema became the head coach of the Illinois football program, it seems that the Illini have recruited a lot of safeties.

Illinois has landed Kionte Curry, TJ Griffin, and Matthew Bailey in the past two recruiting classes. There are also safeties in the 2023 class who the Illini are recruiting. Defensive coordinator Ryan Walters tasks his safties with a lot of responsibility on the field, but he trusts his safties.

Last season, Walters had both Kerby Joseph and Sydney Brown play key roles on defense. A lot of the time, Walters used Brown to disguise what type of defense Illinois was playing.

With how the Illini recruit safeties, Jacob’s recruitment will be one to watch, especially since Illinois football recruiting has been going in a positive direction.
