Illinois basketball has some national attention when it comes to one of their recruits from 2022.
The 2022 class is pretty special for the Illini. We have four signed up right now with two incoming transfers who will light the world on fire. 247Sports has Illinois’ class of 2022 ranked as the No. 9 class in the nation as well.
This class for Illinois should bear a great deal of fruit for the 2022-23 campaign. They are going to be leaned on for a tremendous amount of minutes. Ty Rodgers is a member of this class, and while he waits to suit up for the Orange and Blue, Rodgers still has some unfinished business at the high school level.
On Tuesday, USA Basketball released the names of 27 athletes who have been invited to the USA Men’s U18 training camp. There are some pretty big names on this list from the class of 2022, 2023, and 2024. Rodgers is among this group of elite players.
Ty Rodgers is an underrated recruit coming into the Illinois basketball program.
If you just look at 247Sports and where Rodgers is ranked, it is kind of a head-scratcher why he is among the elite players in the nation. They have him as the No. 61 player in the country. But, clearly, USA Basketball thinks highly of Rodgers, and that shows you how talented this kid really is on the basketball court.
Joining Rodgers in the training camp are some of the biggest names in the recruiting world. From the class of 2022, Nick Smith Jr. is the No. 5 player, Amari Bailey is the No. 7 player, and Kel’el Ware is the No. 8 player.
The group heading to training camp also consists of big names for 2023 and 2024 such as GG Jackson, Brandon Garrison, Omaha Biliew, and Derik Queen.
Rodgers is an elite player who has a chance to show out in front of some of the important people in the basketball world. This is a great chance for him to get exposure and compete against the best players in the country.
Look for Rodgers to do well and, potentially, make one of the 12 spots that are up for grabs. He is a special player with special talent. This is the start of a special run for this kid.
