The Illinois football coaching staff is looking to strengthen its defensive line with a recent offer.
After losing some key pieces from the defensive line when the 2021 season ended, Illinois is looking to add more depth. This is why the Illini has recently offered Trevor Buhr.
Buhr is a 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive lineman from Washington High School in Washington, Missouri. According to 247sports, Buhr is a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 707 player in the class of 2023. He is also the No. 18 ranked player in the state of Missouri. Buhr has a lot of talent, and other teams outside of Illinois have noticed, as he now has offers from Texas A&M, Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota.
Illinois is not late to Buhr’s recruitment as all those offers I named came a little over a month ago. But his recruitment is starting to heat up, and Illinois has plenty of time time to make a push in his recruitment.
Why is the Illinois football coaching staff pursuing Trevor Buhr?
The Illini only has one interior defensive line commit from the past two recruiting classes. Illinois is already thin in that area, so they went to the transfer portal to get defensive line help.
Despite adding players from the transfer portal, there are still questions of future depth. Keith Randolph and Johnny Newton are the starters on the interior line, but who are the starters in the future?
The offers that Buhr has speaks volumes about how talented this kid really is on the football field. Illinois needs depth on the defensive line, and Buhr will surely provide that for the team. Buhr hasn’t announced teams at the top of his list just yet, but don’t be surprised if Illinois makes some waves in this recruitment.
