2. Courtney Ramey

Illinois has been in numerous recruitments over the years. One of the players we lost out on a few years back was Courtney Ramey. He is a talented guard who could really help this program.

Coming out of the 2018 class, Ramey was a four-star recruit who was ranked as the No. 43 player in the country. He had just about every team in the country after him, but he would end up picking Texas to play his collegiate basketball.

Ramey had a good four years with the Longhorns. His best season came two years ago when he averaged 12.2 points, 3.9 assists, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. He also shot 41.4% from three-point range that year, which is a really good number.

With one season of eligibility left, Ramey is now looking for a new home to finish up his time in the college ranks. Numerous teams have been reported to have contacted the star guard, and Illinois is one of those teams.

I am curious to see what Brad Underwood would do with the guard situation if Ramey did come to Champaign. Incoming freshman Skyy Clark is going to start, there is no doubt about that. But Ramey plays the same position. I wouldn’t mind seeing Clark and Ramey in the backcourt together dishing the ball and making their teammates better. It would be similar to Dee Brown and Deron Williams.

There hasn’t been too much information released since Ramey entered the transfer portal back on March 31. Look for Illinois to be up there in contention for the former four-star, though.
