The Illinois basketball program is one of the top teams that are vying for the commitment of superstar point guard, Skyy Clark.

This has been known for a while. Clark decided to cut down his list a few days ago and kept the Illini in his top six. The six teams still in the running include USC, Washington, Maryland, Louisville, Tennessee, and Illinois. This was a big top list for the Illini to make, and the information continues to flow out about Clark’s next steps.

On Tuesday, Joe Tipton of On3.com tweeted out that Clark has plans to visit Louisville, USC, Maryland, and Illinois. He also mentions that a decision will be coming in April.

More news dropped on Wednesday when Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com went on Louisville Sports Live to talk about Clark’s recruitment. In a tweet from that interview, Louisville Sports Live quoted Weingarten as saying that Illinois was the leader with Louisville in second place right now.

Illinois basketball seems to have some momentum in the Skyy Clark race.

The information above is exciting if you are an Illini fan. Clark clearly has a strong interest in the program, and we have one shot to prove that Champaign is the place to be when he comes for a visit in the near future.

Brad Underwood and the Illinois coaching staff also did an in-home visit with Clark. That means the relationship is pretty strong between the two parties.

I think Underwood’s extension on Wednesday is something that will help in the recruitment of Clark. With so much going on in college basketball regarding movement, Illinois has a plan in place where there will actually be stability within the program. That is an underrated aspect of Clark’s recruitment right now, in my opinion.

The future of Illinois basketball is already in good hands. We have won a regular season conference championship and a Big Ten Tournament. With Clark in the fold, a national title could be right around the corner.
