The Illinois basketball program moved one step closer to landing another big-time recruit for 2022.
Illinois’ class of 2022 is already pretty stout. Ty Rodgers, Jayden Epps, and Sencire Harris are all committed and signed with the Illini. They are all top 100 recruits for 2022 and will make an impact from day one.
But there is always room to add another talented player. Landing a recruit who can be our full-time point guard would be a nice addition. That player could be Skyy Clark.
On Tuesday afternoon, Joe Tipton for On3.com reported that Clark had cut his list down to just six teams. The six programs making the cut included Washington, Tennessee, Louisville, Maryland, USC, and Illinois.
Making the top six for Skyy Clark is huge for the Illinois basketball team.
The statement above is an obvious one. The Illini need more talent for the future, and Clark can provide that talent in a big way.
Clark has a 247Sports rating of 0.9913, which makes him a five-star recruit. If he picks Illinois, he would be the highest-rated recruit for the Illini since 247Sports started rating back in roughly 2003. The next highest would be Jereme Richmond at 0.9890.
Illinois would also fill the huge void of not having a point guard heading into the upcoming season. Andre Curbelo has departed the program, which leaves a massive hole at the No. 1 spot on the team. Clark would come into the program and start from day one.
I would argue, ratings-wise, this would be one of the best Illinois teams we have ever seen. Brad Underwood would have a five-star and a plethora of four-star recruits out there on the court every game. We have seen that a few times in the past, but the depth this Illini program would have would be insane.
Hopefully, Underwood and the coaching staff can close and get Clark to commit. He would be a big piece of a national title-contending team.
