One of the biggest Illinois football targets has set an official commitment date.

The Illini are trying to build a solid class of 2023 after completing their 2022 class just about a month ago. Illinois managed to secure a top 50 class for 2022, finishing at No. 46 in the nation. This was the highest-ranked class for the Orange and Blue in nearly a decade.

But stacking solid classes together is how you become a competitive team again. That is something Bret Bielema could accomplish if he secures commitments from players like Kaden Feagin.

Feagin is a 6-foot-3, 221-pound athlete from Arthur Sr. High School and resides in Arthur, Illinois. He is rated as a four-star recruit and ranked as the No. 241 player in the class of 2023. He is also the No. 18 athlete in the nation and the No. 3 player coming out of Illinois.

On Monday morning, Feagin announced that he would be making a commitment this week. He posted on Twitter that he will be committing Wednesday, March 23 at 12:00 p.m. CT at his high school.

Kaden Feagin would be a great first piece for the Illinois football class of 2023.

When Bielema became the head coach at Illinois, he mentioned that winning the state in recruiting was a priority. That is a stark contrast from the previous coaching staff’s mentality.

So far, Bielema has held true to his word. 11 players from the 2022 class were from the state of Illinois. That was the biggest in-state haul in quite some time. With a commitment from Feagin, the Illini would add another in-state recruit.

Feagin would also be the highest-rated commitment in the Bielema era as well. As of right now, Aidan Laughery takes the cake as the No. 648 player in the class of 2022. But Feagin would surpass that number as the No. 241 player in his class.

It looks like the three options for Feagin would be Illinois, Iowa, and Notre Dame. I feel like the Irish are a new team in the mix here, but I might be reading too much into that. Back on March 9, Feagin posted on his timeline a video of him in an Illinois uniform. His pinned post is of the offer from Illinois back on March 19, 2021. Everything screams Illinois to me.

Feagin would be a great addition to the Orange and Blue. I imagine he would join the program as a running back as well. This would give the Illini one of the best backfields I have seen in years.
