The Illinois basketball team has seen great success over the past three years, and the reason we have had success is due to the talented players on the court.

Each one of the Illini players has played a role in getting to where we are today. But there are some players who get great notoriety for their play. This season, Illinois has a handful of names who made an All-Big Ten Team.

Illinois basketball players who made an All-Big Ten team.

  • Kofi Cockburn – Coaches & Media

The obvious Illini to make an All-Big Ten Team is Kofi Cockburn. He has earned the honor of being a unanimous All-Big Ten First Team selection this season.

Kofi has put Illinois on his back various times during the 2021-22 campaign. He has been the go-to guy. But, despite other teams knowing the ball is going to Kofi, he can still put up 21 points and 10.6 rebounds on a nightly basis.

  • Trent Frazier – Coaches & Media

I wasn’t sure where Trent Frazier would land on the All-Big Ten Team rosters, but I did know that he earned a spot on one of the three lineups. The conference had some great talent this season, so Frazier ended up as an All-Big Ten Second Team selection.

Frazier had a great season as a player who formed into whatever the team needed him to be. He is a true shooter at heart, but with the lack of point guard on the team, Frazier formed into the starting point guard. This enabled him to lead the team with four assists per game.

In addition to Frazier making the second team by both the coaches and media, he also made the All-Defensive Team. Frazier has been one of the best, if not the best, defensive players in the country this season. His defense has helped Illinois win games when the scoring goes cold. Frazier has been such an asset to this team.

  • Alfonso Plummer – Coaches & Media

Over the past couple of decades, Illinois has had some good transfer players, but we have rarely had someone come into the program and make an impact like Alfonso Plummer. He probably doesn’t get enough credit for what he has done with the Illini, but he still earned All-Big Ten Third Team this season.

Plummer can be one of the most electric players on the basketball court. His ability to create his own shot is something I haven’t seen in a very long time. There is professional basketball waiting for this kid after he leaves Illinois. His 15.1 points per game this season have been vital to Illinois’ success.
