4. Who will step up from three-point range?

I would argue this has been the most up and down three-point season in the history of the Illinois basketball program. I am not sure how you quantify up and down three-point shooting, but it is so stressful.

When Illinois is hitting shots from three-point range, it looks like we can beat anyone in the country. The team can light up the scoreboard. But there are also games we can’t hit anything, and it is painful to watch.

Since the start of February, Illinois has had numerous up and down three-point shooting games. We have had five 32% or worse three-point shooting games in the nine games we have played since February 1. In contrast, the Illini have had three games where they shot 43% or better from three-point range, and in one of those games, they shot 58.8% from distance.

One of the big questions I have for Sunday is who will step up from three-point range for the Illinois basketball team?

In the first game against Iowa this season, Illinois was lights out from three-point range. We hit 44% from downtown on 25 attempts. Three different Illini players hit at least three three-pointers in the game as well.

I want to see who steps up this time around. Da’Monte Williams was the main three-point shooter against Penn State, but I don’t think that is sustainable. Illinois is going to need someone like Alfonso Plummer to have a big three-point shooting game. We need this win. Let’s hit buckets and bury Iowa early.
