The offseason has officially started for most programs, and the Illinois football team should be looking for a quarterback in the transfer portal.

There are numerous players who have already entered the transfer portal with some of them being at the quarterback position. No one really knows where most of the quarterbacks will land, but one thing is for certain, the Illini better be in the mix for a handful of the talented passers.

It would be amazing to land someone like Spencer Rattler or Max Johnson, but I am being more realistic with my options. I think we can land a difference-maker.

Here are five transfer portal quarterbacks on my wish list for the Illinois football team.

1. Myles Brennan – LSU – 6th Year

There are plenty of transfer quarterbacks on the market, but one of the top choices for me would be Myles Brennen.

Brennan was a four-star recruit coming out of Mississippi in 2017. He committed to LSU and saw success when he was on the field.

In his best season, 2020, Brennan threw for 1,112 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions. During his LSU career, he threw for a total of 1,712 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Brennan also had a completion rate of 60.2%.

Injuries have hampered Brennan’s career with LSU. I think he clearly has the potential to be a pretty good quarterback, but he just can’t see the field consistently. After missing the entire 2021 campaign, he is now going to be healthy.

I think it would be a good idea for Illinois to take a flier on Brennan. The numbers above have come against SEC defenses, which is impressive. I think he would fit in well with the Illini. He would be a stabilizing force for the offense while younger quarterbacks develop and get more experience.

I also believe Brennan would be a better option than anyone currently on the roster. He would be an instant upgrade and a shot in the arm for the Illini offense. There are rumblings that Brennan might be heading to Nebraska, though. This is something to watch out for moving forward.
