Illinois Basketball: Crystal Ball Predication in for Illini target Ty Rodgers

Buckle up Illinois basketball fans, while we fell to Marquette just days ago, the program may be one step closer to strengthening the roster.

The Illini have been looking for more size to add to the roster. They had a great class of 2021 come in, but all three talented players were either guards or wings. I think this program needs a player with some size who can suit up at the No. 4 spot. That player just might be Ty Rodgers.

Rodgers’ timeline seems to be getting clearer as the days go on. He had every team in the country wanting him when he was playing high school basketball at Grand Blanc in Michigan. He then moved over to Illinois to play for the Thornton Wildcats.

Since the move, Rodgers narrowed his list down to four programs. The four teams still vying for his commitment include Memphis, Alabama, Michigan State, and Illinois.

Illinois basketball seems to be inching closer to landing Ty Rodgers.

Rodgers seems to keep everything pretty close to the vest. But, just this past weekend, the talented forward made a trip to Champaign to watch the Illini play.

This was a big trip because it shows me that Rodgers really has Illinois as one of the top options. Illinois as a landing spot for Rodgers seems to be gaining momentum as well.

On Tuesday night, Derek Piper of 247Sports put in a Crystal Ball Prediction for Rodgers. The forward already had one prediction in, but that was months ago to Michigan and they aren’t even involved in his recruitment.

What program does Piper have Rodgers picking? Illinois, of course. Piper has a confidence of eight out of 10 for Rodgers to land in Champaign. That is a really high number and one that usually means it is a near lock.

This would be a massive addition to the Illinois basketball program. Rodgers is a top 70 recruit and someone who could contribute early on in his career. He would also give Illinois three top 100 commitments for 2022. The future is bright.
