The first game is in the books for Ayo Dosunmu, as the Chicago Bulls moved to 1-0 on the season.
After a solid preseason that saw an efficient Ayo do some good work for the Bulls, the former Illini star got his chance to shine in a close game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night.
At the 8:08 mark in the second quarter, head coach Billy Donovan called on Ayo for his first NBA regular-season minutes. It was a short spurt of time on the court, but it was enough for Ayo to knock off the rust and get acclimated to the game.
Ayo’s biggest impact of the night came late in the third quarter. The Bulls were trailing the Pistons by two points until Ayo went on a solo 4-0 run that was aided by two steals from his teammates.
Keep expecting the great play from Ayo Dosunmu.
I don’t think anyone is shocked by the solid first game from Ayo. He would end the night putting up 7 points, 2 rebounds, 1 block in just 11 minutes of action. He also shot 3-of-8 from the field and 1-of-3 from three-point range.
The Bulls bench didn’t have a ton of production, but Ayo was the star for the reserves. He was the only one with a positive plus-minus on the night, at +7. The next closest was Troy Brown Jr. at -6.
Moving forward, Ayo should probably start getting more minutes. He proved in his first game that he can play at the NBA level. He will only continue to develop as time goes on as well.
I love the fact that the scoring opportunities Ayo did receive were due to him running the court. If he didn’t put himself in the right positions in the open court, then the production wouldn’t have been nearly as high as it was on Wednesday.
This is just game one of many for Ayo and the Bulls. Don’t be shocked to see him continue to get double-digit minutes for this Chicago team ready to burst onto the scene.
