Secondary help is a must, and the Illinois football team is trying to build depth in the defensive backfield via the class of 2022.

As of right now, the Illini haven’t secured a defensive back for the 2022 class. While this class isn’t finished by any means, they need to start putting together more players who can help defend the pass. An option for the secondary might be someone like Nathan Vail.

Vail is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound safety from Harrison High School and resides in Kennesaw, Georgia. He is rated as a three-star recruit and ranked as the No. 784 player in the class of 2022. He is also the No. 56 safety in the nation and the No. 78 player coming out of Georgia.

Last Thursday, Illinois came in with an offer to Vail. We might be a little late to the game, though. Vail has already taken four of his five official visits and made a commitment to Duke back in late August. So, this is going to be a massive uphill battle for the Orange and Blue.

What would Vail bring to the Illinois football team?

It is not a shock that numerous teams wanted Vail and why Duke should be excited to land the safety. He brings a lot of talent to the table.

The hard-hitting ability is something that is always loved in a safety. He can come down on a wide receiver and separate player from ball. That is a big bonus to the position.

Vail’s ability to see where the ball is going is impressive as well. He can read the quarterback’s eyes and jump on a route. His quickness enables him to make a play on the ball.

While it would be great to have Vail on the team, I find it quite difficult to flip him. The only hope for the Illini is to snag his final official visit and then put on a show for him if he makes the trip to Champaign. If we can manage to get him to come to a game on an official visit, then we have a shot.

Vail is an extremely talented player. Duke should feel lucky to have him and all he brings to the field. They are getting a good one.
